The Uncommon Chance

I wade through swirling streams of mistyped data
Kick at piles of dead-end code
Excavate the odds and ends outside of parameters
Exploring a new kind of binary
Parsed from the noise, full of uncertainty
Replacing if this, then that
With what if, what if
That infinite redirection
Shaping our lives

 Grasp the uncommon chance
Though others call it error

Sisters of the Riverbank

I see them in winter
Now the light is lowering the sky
To a glow of late days

Their fingertips: bony, leaves lost
Entwined in solidarity
Holding hands at the river’s edge
Waiting out the rising winter floods

I see them in spring
Now the light is lifting the sky
Above the silver frosts

Singing a green song; dancing
Along the racing riverbank
Filling the air with pollen and bees
Waltzing with the breeze

I see them in the summer
Now the light is a vast blue echo
Of blazing sunshine

Their limbs laden: green shawls
Draped over slow summer waters
A picnic of sheep and swallows
And soft summer talk

I see them in autumn
Now the light is burnishing
Fruit and grain to gold

Sisters of the riverbank
Counting their leaves as they fall
These memories they’ve grown
They share a rich harvest now

Lark

I won't trade on pretty easy
And I don't see why I should
Because this world is based on ugly
And it never balances the books

And for every coin you take you'll see
Those coins are never debt free
Just a token for a way to be
Enslaved by a society

It's pretty clear to me
That I prefer to be free

I may never be a millionaire
But frankly dear, I just don't care
I'll run a comb through my hair
And thank the stars I'm me

Because once the pity party's done
The road back is a gruelling one
And it's pretty clear to me
That I prefer to be free

After all your deals and dollar runs
After the highs and lows so hard won
Have you anything for a kingdom come
Or are you still on your knees

And for every coin you take you'll see
Those coins are never debt free
Just a token for a way to be
Enslaved by a society

A lark is singing in the sky
It sings the loudest way up high
And it's pretty clear to me
That it prefers to be free

I may never be a millionaire
But frankly dear, I just don't care
I'll run a comb through my hair
And thank the stars I'm me

Because
It's pretty clear to me
That I prefer to be free

Wearing your heart on my sleeve

I took the fabric of your heart
And stitched it to my sleeve
In the hope that you might finally believe

I took your eyes and sowed them full of all my dreams
I know you want me sorry but I'm not as sorry as it seems

I wrote it down in rhyme for you to read
Glimpses of a heaven I will gladly reveal

I want you to find that love and hold it in the light
You'll never find the answers hiding in the night

I know you want me sorry but I'm not as sorry as it seems
Because I'm wearing your heart on my sleeve
In the hope that you might finally believe

And if you think I came here just for you
Well that's OK to believe too
But there's millions more just like you
And it's all the same for them too
I know you want my sorry
But I'm not as sorry as it seems
So I took the fabric of your heart
And stitched it to my sleeve
I wear it there, honey
In the hope that you'll believe

Run Wilful Child

They say love will tame me
But I am nothing if I'm not free
How can love claim me
You might as well try and tame the sea

Run wilful child
Run wilful child
Who could blame you
Run wilful child
Until love claims you

Scraping the ice from the car
Monday morning, another cold start
Birds carve the sky in a V
Flying the line of the trees
Road's empty for eight
We won't be late
It's only three degrees

They say love will tame me
But I am nothing if I'm not free
How can love claim me
You might as well try and tame the sea

Run wilful child
Run wilful child
Who could blame you
Run wilful child
Until love claims you

(not sure this is finished yet..)
