Somewhere between yesterday and today
Somewhere between yesterday and today
The rules changed
Those lines blurred
Our shapes became a different word
Somewhere between yesterday and today
It's a whole new ball game
Don't throw me that curve
Because I've heard
It all before
Once, twice, encore, encore
Get up! get up!
Off that floor
But I'm not so sure now
And I'm not sure how
But somewhere between yesterday and today
Those rules changed
Somewhere between yesterday and today
Somewhere between yesterday and today
The rules changed
Those lines blurred
Our shapes became a different word
And you're not so sure now
And you're not sure how
But somewhere between yesterday and today
Somewhere between yesterday and today
It's a whole new ball game

Returning the key
This new light
Shivering and thinly disguised
As winter
Draws out the lines
On a now clean canvas
Like fresh washed sand
Stranded
As the sea recedes
What have we done?
But the rhetoric will not repair
The old guttering
Or save the bills
From piling up
Debt upon debt into a rotten heap
Kicked into the corner
To moulder in our absence
The final turn of the key
Posting it back through the letterbox
And we are gone
Just the bright sunshine in our eyes
To obscure the fact that
Once
We lived here
Shivering and thinly disguised
As winter
Draws out the lines
On a now clean canvas
Like fresh washed sand
Stranded
As the sea recedes
What have we done?
But the rhetoric will not repair
The old guttering
Or save the bills
From piling up
Debt upon debt into a rotten heap
Kicked into the corner
To moulder in our absence
The final turn of the key
Posting it back through the letterbox
And we are gone
Just the bright sunshine in our eyes
To obscure the fact that
Once
We lived here

The View From Here And
There isn't much to see
If you're trying to look at me
And I'm sick of the reasons why
I didn't look
And I didn't try
And what do you want me to say
I didn't dare
And I didn't die
What do you want me to say
I didn't change
And I didn't lie
Oh honey, it was you
Who's looking at me
But I'll tell you now
There's not that much to see
And on the way here
I drowned in a ocean of tears
And on the way here
I burned in a wildfire of fears
And what do you want me to say
To give absolution
And tidy it all away
Well honey, it was you
Who was looking my way
If you're trying to look at me
And I'm sick of the reasons why
I didn't look
And I didn't try
And what do you want me to say
I didn't dare
And I didn't die
What do you want me to say
I didn't change
And I didn't lie
Oh honey, it was you
Who's looking at me
But I'll tell you now

Goodbye
Your eyes close the space
Stretching hours into moments
In their tender embrace
And a thousand cobweb threads
Could not hold you
However tight
And no rain could douse
Those eyes burning bright
A storm will rage in my heart
For all days
Since I've had to watch
Your eyes say
Stretching hours into moments
In their tender embrace
And a thousand cobweb threads
Could not hold you
However tight
And no rain could douse
Those eyes burning bright
A storm will rage in my heart
For all days
Since I've had to watch
Your eyes say

Rochester Cathedral (plus fragment from visit to Mont Saint Michel)
To Rochester Cathedral I go
Loitering amongst the vaulted spaces
Air redolent with prayers and hope
Old stones standing strong
Shoring me up with their fortitude
And in this space, these finite walls
I'll find an easing of my soul
Letting slip all my vanities
Stepping out of this fearful skin
Finding hope again
To Rochester Cathedral I go
As often as I have before
These old walls are my friends
They teach me how to weather all
Old stones standing strong
Shoring me up with their fortitude
~
(..the heart is a vaulted cathedral
where angels sing..)

Cerulean Daze
I would have lived on a hill
Where the trees never stood still
Kissed by an ocean's breeze
Safe in those cerulean days
I take a moment now and then
To remember how and when
We changed
How we change
Mosaics on the floor
Crosswords against the door
And every little fragment that falls
Into place
Changes the look on your face
Till I no longer recognise you
At all
Four winds and a high tide
Won't help me find the way
Back to my cerulean daze
I would have lived on a hill
Where the trees never stood still
Kissed by an ocean's breeze
Safe in those cerulean days
Where the trees never stood still
Kissed by an ocean's breeze
Safe in those cerulean days
I take a moment now and then
To remember how and when
